The 56 Signatories and the Irish Connection
In 1776, fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence.
The official list of signatories is preserved by the National Archives, custodian of the
original document.
Among those fifty-six were three men born in Ireland - a matter of historical record supported by the National Archives, the Library of Congress and the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.
